The CUSCSP is now in the first part of the second phase, or Phase IIa. The primary goal of Phase II-a is to test a real-time, workable model for tracking delivery of safe and secure cargo sent by truck, rail, and ship from point-of-origin in a remote foreign location to point-of-destination at a business in the Northeast.

Phase I of the Canada-US Cargo Security Project, completed in May 2002, successfully tested the basic technology required to monitor a cargo container shipped from a manufacturing plant in Eastern Europe to the Osram-Sylvania plant in Hillsborough, New Hampshire by way of shipping ports in Hamburg, Germany, and Montreal, Canada.
