> Mission

The mission of the Center is to help ensure that our nation’s built critical infrastructures and key resources can meet the security threats of the 21st century.

The NI2 Center for Infrastructure Expertise, established to execute the protection and security element of the NI2 mission, is dedicated to becoming a focal point for the national leaders of federal, state, and local infrastructure security. As such, it assists government agencies in developing and applying best practices and creative solutions providing cost effective methods to protect the nation's built infrastructure from terrorist attacks and other catastrophic events.

The Center strives to coordinate government agencies and private industry in bringing about change that will improve critical infrastructure security in a systematic and cost-effective manner through applied methodologies versus theoretical modeling. Our goal is to help drive the changes that will provide the greatest public benefit to the nation's security by converting theory into practice. The Center's activities are outcome oriented so that the nation's infrastructure managers will be able to use all available best practices and knowledge for the protection and security of their facilities. The Center endeavors to be the catalyst that brings together federal, state, local governments, private industry and non-government organizations in order to facilitate the highest possible levels of critical infrastructure protection.
